KINUBIYOU® is a skincare method unlike any other — combining Japan's thousand-year silk heritage with the 180-year artisan tradition of Kumano brushwork. A facial treatment that transcends culture, age, and skin type.
Follow on InstagramToday's facial esthetics industry has normalized the endless pursuit of new devices, ingredients, and cosmetics. Yet the result is widespread barrier damage and persistent skin problems.
KINUBIYOU® was born from the exact opposite philosophy. The skin already possesses everything it needs to be beautiful and healthy. With only silk, warm water, and trained hands, that function can be restored.
No cosmetics. No devices. Only thousand-year-old materials and mastered technique.
The ancient wisdom of Kyoto's maiko, who polished their skin with silk for centuries
The essence of the treatment lies in three elements rooted in the Japanese spirit: Breath · Form · Stroke.
The breath of a Zen monk, the grace of a tea master, the stroke of a calligrapher. This spirit flows through the brush, reaching deep into the fascia and meridians of the skin.
As clients surrender to the practitioner's rhythm, they are guided into deep breathing and a meditative bliss. Stimulation and vitality beyond deep-tissue pressure — and skin of remarkable smoothness. An experience only KINUBIYOU® can deliver.

SHŌDŌ · The Spirituality of the Stroke
Calligraphy — a thousand years of history — is not merely a writing technique, but a path of spiritual refinement: "placing the heart upon the brush." Each breath, each moment of tension and release, each lingering echo after the stroke lifts — all reflect the inner state of the writer.
A KINUBIYOU® practitioner glides the silk brush — soaked in warm water — across the skin, just as a calligrapher moves an ink-laden brush. Pressure, rhythm, the art of "ma" (pause) — all transmit directly to the recipient's body and mind.
02 /
SADŌ · The Heart of Hospitality and Wabi-Sabi
Perfected by Sen no Rikyū in the 16th century, the tea ceremony embodies "ichi-go ichi-e" — this meeting will never come again. Every gesture in the tea room — the angle of the bowl, the sound of the whisk, the timing of the offering — carries deep meaning and care.
KINUBIYOU® inherits the "kata" (form) and spirit of hospitality from the tea ceremony. The aesthetic of wabi-sabi — finding ultimate beauty in simplicity — is the very philosophy of performing a treatment with nothing but silk and warm water.

TŌJI · The Healing Wisdom of the Body
Tōji is Japan's unique therapeutic culture of staying near hot springs to strengthen the body's natural healing power. The process of warming → improved circulation → toxin elimination → self-repair was understood empirically by the Japanese for hundreds of years.
By warming and polishing the skin with a silk brush soaked in hot water, KINUBIYOU® simultaneously achieves the thermal effects of a hot spring soak and the moisturizing effects of sericin. The active brush movements reach deep into the fascia, guiding clients into a profound sleep.
What Japanese women knew intuitively has been confirmed by cutting-edge science. KINUBIYOU® simultaneously activates three biological processes.
Silk is composed of 18 amino acids with a composition remarkably close to human skin. When the silk brush soaked in 80°C water glides across the skin, sericin (water-soluble silk protein) dissolves naturally, delivering moisture to the skin. No preservatives, no additives — only the living protein of silk.
The gentle, repeated thermal stimulation of the silk brush activates HSP production in the dermal layer. This "cellular repair enhancement through heat stimulation" promotes circulation, reduces puffiness, supports immunity, and improves skin laxity — the principle that tōji has used for centuries, now confirmed by modern medicine.
The unique triangular cross-section of silk fibers gently removes dead skin cells without stressing the skin. Each zone is adjusted in angle and pressure by the practitioner — a fully customized exfoliation. A technique only trained hands can achieveできる繊細さです。
The Treatment
KINUBIYOU® begins before the skin is touched. The opening ritual inherits the Shinto purification practice of "kiyome" — not as performance, but as an essential part of the treatment itself.
Every gesture carries meaning. Every sound is intentional. Clients are invited into an experience beyond beauty — a quiet bow to a thousand years of Japanese culture.
Before the treatment, the silk brush is carefully combed with a boxwood comb, aligning the fibers while centering the mind. A ritual inheriting the ancient Shinto practice of "harae" — purification that prepares the practitioner's spirit.
Of all the senses, fragrance alone reaches the brain directly. A blend of incense specially composed for the KINUBIYOU® ritual purifies the body, the space, and brings balance to body and mind.
The purified silk brush is gently drawn over the client's body in a "fude-harae." It signals the beginning of the treatment through sensation, and serves as the gateway to deep relaxation.
The KINUBIYOU® protocol follows 13 precise steps. Each one is guided by breath and rhythm, unfolding like a score composed for skin and soul.
KINUBIYOU® addresses a wide range of modern skin concerns — from facial zones to deep relaxation.
Born from the meeting of two Japanese traditions: the artisan craft of Kumano brushmaking and the golden silk of Gunma Prefecture. A tool with no equal in the world.

Every brush is assembled by hand. The angle of the tip, the length of the fibers, the calculated elasticity — all the result of research to maximize sericin release and thermal effect at each treatment zone.
Each part of the brush has a defined function: the Tip follows the bone structure in fine detail; the Center delivers broad thermal coverage and hydration; the Heel stimulates deeper layers and promotes lymphatic flow.
Kumano has been the world capital of artisan brushes for over 180 years. Each brush is assembled by hand, fiber by fiber, with a precision no machine can replicate.
The gestures of selecting, aligning, and precisely bundling silk fibers cannot be reproduced by any machine. A true craft passed down through generations.
The silk thread used is drawn from the rare "Gunma Kogane" cocoon variety. Its golden color comes from carotenoids — natural antioxidants. 100% Japanese origin guarantees freedom from pesticides and insecticides.
From the design of the silk brush to the training of certified practitioners — the philosophy that guides every decision we make.
We respond to the trust of our fellow practitioners with techniques and products built on honest, consistent principles — and we continue to offer hope to the skin and futures of the clients beyond them.
We believe that our goal — creating "a stress-free daily life and a skin environment where natural healing power can flourish" — is what women seeking beauty and health truly need. We work toward this every day.
Unbound by convention, we look to the essence within the materials, knowledge, and ideas inherited from those who came before — and pursue without compromise the forms we believe are truly necessary.
Founder · mayunoWa LLC · Yokohama
Before founding KINUBIYOU®, Yuko Yokoyama was an esthetician. She knew the industry's inner conflicts better than anyone — the growing discomfort of chasing the next ingredient, the next device, and becoming someone who performed "treatments to sell cosmetics." Then one day, her body said: "I've reached my limit."
Through developing multiple chemical sensitivity, Yuko returned to the fundamentals of skin physiology — the barrier function, skin immunity, natural regeneration. The answer to that inquiry is KINUBIYOU®.
"Beauty not to sell cosmetics, but to protect the skin." A methodology supporting the skin's own inherent capacity. Allowing the skin to do what it already knows how to do.
Today, KINUBIYOU® is a patented method with certified instructors in Japan, France, and beyond. mayunoWa is B Corporation certified — a company recognized for social impact.
